The permit areas are fragmented, and a few locations included in the permit area are so close to yards that fishing there is not permitted. The maps show where the association's lands run and where the state's lands are. Because there are many permit areas and they cover a long distance, it is also a good idea to fish the Utsjoki over a wide area. And because the area to be fished is vast, a competent guide saves a decade of work by showing the optimal fishing spots in relation to water level, timing, and other conditions.<\/p><p>It is advisable to use a car when requested to access the uppermost and lowermost parts of the permit areas, but the best fishing spots in the middle of the river area should definitely be explored by boat. Riding in a boat makes it easy to go through the best fishing holes, and it helps you find uncrowded fishing spots effortlessly. The middle section of the river also includes the Kevo and Tsarssijoki rivers.<\/p><p>Most of the salmon in the entire Utsjoki river are one- or two-sea-winter fish, but large salmon up to over 20 kg in size also ascend the river. The grayling population in the river is quite good and clearly improves as you go further up the river. Fishing equipment includes everything from two-handed fly rods to small bamboo rods, depending slightly on the location and water level, not forgetting spinning rods.<\/p><h3>Kevojoki \u2013 Fishing:<\/h3><p>The Kevo River is a kept secret among those who visit it, and no wonder. The river's salmon stock is strong, and good pools are relatively few and easy to find. During busy times, it is valuable to know the small pockets or areas in front of boulders outside the most common pools, where a resting salmon can be caught. Most of the rapids in Kevo are such shallow rapids that salmon do not stop in them, nor are they interested in chasing lures there.<\/p><p>Since you\u2019re not allowed to park your car on the road leading to the Kevon research station, you\u2019ll have to walk to the river from near Patoniva. Taking a boat saves you several kilometers of hiking. With the help of this guide, you can plan your trip for the best time of year, when the river is as calm as possible, and you\u2019ll also discover the lesser-known spots where you can fish in peace. The fishing association\u2019s licensed area extends about 3 km upstream from the river mouth and is an excellent spot for fly fishing.<\/p><p>The banks are typically very open, and the Kevo Canyon often acts as an excellent windbreak, so Kevo could be described as the perfect fly-fishing river. Spin fishing is also sometimes extremely effective, but in the late summer when the water drops, using a fly is a better solution than casting a lure. The Kevo Canyon itself is so magnificent that it would be worth visiting even if the river wasn't flowing at the bottom!<\/p><p>About 90% of the salmon in the Kevon River weigh 1\u20132 kg, and even though there are also grayling in the river, it\u2019s best to focus primarily on salmon fishing in the Kevon River. The river's salmon stock is good and large in size. Tits are large and salmon legs are common. Fish in the salmon class are not rarities either. Due to the difficult accessibility of the river's rapid sections and banks, local knowledge is extremely important. When fishing the river at random, many vacations are wasted on trudging and fishing the wrong spots. In the narrow river, variations in the water level dramatically change the character of the river, and the river varies in size from a pathetically small trickle to huge and foaming masses of water, depending on the rains and the season.<\/p><p>To fish the permitted areas optimally, waders are handy for crossing the river. This allows you to fish a significantly wider area in a single trip, as the permitted areas alternate from one bank to the other. As for fishing gear, a small double-handed fly rod is suitable for high water, and in very low water, even a fairly small single-handed rod will suffice.
